Turning World has been working with the Australian Embassy Vietnam to explore opportunities for future engagement between Australia and Vietnam’s creative industries.

Kate and Tam travelled to Vietnam twice in 2024, their second visit leading a delegation of 10 Australian music industry professionals to Saigon in December.

The delegation included Federal and state music peak bodies, commercial promoters, labels and artists. We had a packed program, coinciding with Vietnam Music Week and HOZO– a huge free music festival in the streets of downtown Saigon.

Industry connection highlights were a skills sharing workshop ‘All Ears : Focus Australia’ produced by local indie agency Hot Panda Media and an industry mixer presented by the new Vietnamese Association of Music Professionals.

We are thrilled that relationships are already blossoming-  Dong Nguyen (Hot Panda Media) and Michael Choi (INQ International) have been invited to Melbourne to share their insights on the Vietnamese music scene for VMDO APAC Exchange and performing arts producer Nguyễn Hải Yến (Red)  will attend the Asia TOPA Exchange. We are planning to release some sector  insights on the exciting Vietnamese music and performing arts scenes – look out for future bulletins!

In the meantime, here’s some great festivals and organisations we have met along the way to check out:

  • HOZO – Ho Chi Minh City International Music Festival- free music festival in downtown Saigon
  • Hay Festival– Vietnam’s first glamping music festival in Hanoi, young & fun audience
  • Monsoon Festival– strongly curated music festival in Hanoi with local and international lineup
  • Hot Panda Media– indie label/ studio brokering international contemporary music connections
  • INQ International– artist management/ producers / managers of Capital Theatre Saigon
  • Nổ Cái Bùm Art Festival – exciting mobile contemporary art festival run by artist collective
