Turning World and University of Melbourne have created IndoTekno, a flagship training program welcoming Indonesian theatre production professionals to Melbourne for hands-on learning and creative exchange.
Delivered in collaboration with the University of Melbourne Arts and Culture (UMAC), the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), Asialink, and supported by the Victorian Government, the program builds on the strong cultural and educational partnership between Victoria and the Special Region of Yogyakarta in Indonesia.
IndoTekno opens doors for mid-career Indonesian theatre technicians and production managers to gain international experience, develop their technical and creative skills, and expand their professional networks across Melbourne’s creative sector.
Indotekno began in Yogyakarta with a Scenography and Design Workshop delivered by VCA experts in September 2025.
From this workshop, four mid-career Indonesian technical professionals travel to Melbourne in November for a month to take part in workshops at the University and learn directly from industry experts through tailored placements with leading Victorian arts companies.
This program builds on almost 20 years of engagement with Indonesia and was a pleasure to co-design with long-term Turning World collaborators Iskander Leodin, Jala Adolphus and Garin Nugroho.
